Large Bathtubs – Purchase and Use
Large corner bathtubs or freestanding bathtubs in large sizes are ideal as bathtubs for two people since they offer plenty of space for two people to fit comfortably. What are some things to consider when buying and then using them?
• Whether sitting side by side or facing one another: The inner shape of the tub should be designed in such a way that one or two people can fit inside it comfortably.
• For reasons of comfort, the faucet and the drain should be placed in the middle.
• Ergonomic backrests provide greater comfort.
• A large bathtub that is designed with two sloping backrests will be especially comfortable for two people.
Create a Comfortable Atmosphere With a Large Bathtub
The first important step to take is to measure the available floor space in your bathroom so that this floor space can be put to the best possible use and adapted to your individual needs. The next step is to think about the desired location for the large bathtub and to select an external shape that fits into the available space. The outer shape of the bathtub doesn't always tell you much about how spacious the inside of the tub is. Whether round or square, freestanding or against a wall: Duravit offers large bathtubs in a number of different designs to meet every taste.
Large corner bathtubs
In principle, large corner bathtubs include all large bathtubs that can only be installed in a corner because of their shape or their integrated bathtub paneling. However, models with a classic triangular shape or a typical trapezoid shape will nestle perfectly into the corner of your bathroom and can also make for a wonderful large corner bathtub for two people. This type of corner bathtub is the perfect large bathtub solution for spacious bathrooms. They often incorporate a practical shelf in the corner where you can store all of your bathing essentials.
Large bathtubs with a freestanding installation are the perfect centerpiece for larger bathrooms. If the idea of a completely freestanding bathtub doesn't suit your taste, you can always install it so that one side of the bathtub is against a wall, leaving the three remaining sides freely accessible. Models with this type of installation are called back-to-wall bathtubs. Alternatively, you might consider having a pony wall built and installing the bathtub in front of it. This type of layout can provide a lot of different design options and an efficient division of space. The one caveat, however, is that the plumbing connections have to be possible here.
Tip: Corner tubs from the Paiova, Paiova 5 or Happy D.2 Plus design series have a touch of a freestanding look thanks to the integrated paneling, but they take up very little space.
Rectangular bathtubs have proven themselves as classic beauties among large and small bathtubs alike. Like corner bathtubs, they can be installed against two walls if desired. The conventional large bathtub format offers plenty of space for your morning and evening routines and for refreshing wellness moments. The impressive, clear geometric shape leaves plenty of room for an exciting accent in the form of an unusual faucet, for example.
Round & oval bathtubs
Oval and round bathtubs from Duravit are not only impressive because of their stylish design but also thanks to their comfortable, gently curved inner shape. With a freestanding installation, large bathtubs are visually stunning. The circular bathtub from the White Tulip series created by Philippe Starck and the square bathtub with rounded corners from the Zencha series by Sebastian Herkner are particularly eye-catching. Their design is based on a blossoming tulip, which offers maximum comfort once you're inside.
The average capacity of a classic bathtub with standard dimensions of about 6 x 2.5 feet (180 x 80 cm) is between about 40 and 48 gallons (150 and 180 liters) of water. Large bathtubs can take anywhere from about 50 to 80 gallons (200 to 300 liters). The amount of water your bathtub will actually take depends on three main factors:
Size:
The longer and wider the area and the taller the edge of the bathtub, the more water it can potentially take.
Shape:
The inner shape of the bathtub also plays an important role because of factors like how steep the walls are.
Overflow location:
The lower the overflow and the associated water level, the less water the tub will be able to take.
However, the full capacity of a tub is never fully used up because the body itself displaces some of the water. Your preferred water level will also depend on the height of your torso and your preferred sitting or lying position.
The question of whether a large bathtub is right for your bathroom is always a matter of the layout and your own personal taste. A large rectangular bathtub can blend harmoniously into the overall design concept in a long, symmetrical bathroom. If, on the other hand, your bathroom has a lot of nooks and crannies, a large corner bathtub for two may be just the thing for you. If you are looking for a real centerpiece for a generously sized bathroom, consider going with a freestanding oversized bathtub placed in the middle of the room. One thing is certain: A large bathtub will definitely add an extra dose of luxury to any bathroom.
