A minimum of space exploited to maximum effect
A family home in Kawaguchi, Japan demonstrates how a quality home interior with a spacious feel can be realized in the tightest of space
• Precision planning by RIOTADESIGN featuring well-conceived walkways and multifunctional elements
• High-quality bathroom design featuring Duravit's DuraSquare and C. 1 ranges
Embedded in Kawaguchi's densely developed townscape, the "drop" house developed by RIOTADESIGN is a well-conceived solution addressing the challenges of restricted space: compact on the outside, but with a surprisingly spacious feel inside. Different levels, window seats, a high ceiling and a gallery blend together to form a cohesive spatial structure.
Social core
The living area forms the central core of the house, with a made-to-measure table serving as the social hub. Precision planning of the functions and the walkways between the different areas ensures efficient use of every square meter, without compromising on comfort. The eating area is integrated into a slightly lowered level, for example, the edge of which also serves as seating and opens up scope for other possible uses. High-quality materials, such as wood, plastered surfaces and textile elements, combine with a clear design to produce a homely interior accommodating the needs of daily use.
Meticulous attention to detail
In the bathroom, RIOTADESIGN has opted for durable quality by Duravit. The above-counter basin of the DuraSquare range combines delicate lines with a design which reduces splashing and enables convenient use. The absence of an overflow and an outlet detail in ceramic underpin the calm design. The basin combines with the C.1 faucet to produce a harmonious overall impression featuring a pleasant look and feel and reliable functionality in everyday use.
