Where Bricks Meet Time
Danish Mews House: London townhouse that unites the Scandinavian way of life with Duravit’s precision bathroom design
• Architecture between British heritage and Danish hygge aesthetics
• Bright materials, custom details, and plenty of natural light
• Bathroom conceived as a subtle extension of the living space, with clear design language and natural materials
On a quiet side street in London’s Lancaster Gate neighborhood, just a few steps from Hyde Park, Neil Dusheiko Architects transformed a former industrial building into a warm, inviting townhouse. Behind the landmarked facade lies a light-filled interior that combines British heritage with a Scandinavian design ethos. The result is a finely balanced interplay of cultural heritage, precision craftsmanship, and timeless calm.
Style on three levels
A centrally positioned staircase runs through every floor, serving as a warm axis that connects the rooms into a single, open, flowing space. Wide planks of light Douglas fir, custom-built furnishings, and Scandinavian furnishings lend a sense of balance to the rooms. Neil Dusheiko Architects worked closely with the clients, a Danish-British couple, to design every last detail — from the furnishings to the finishes. The resulting design combines Nordic minimalism and traditional British craftsmanship.
Clarity in ceramics
Just like in the living spaces, the character of the bathrooms emerges from the interplay of intentional lighting and meticulously balanced materials. On the ground floor, the bathroom is defined by Duravit’s clean lines: A ME by Starck washbasin with L-Cube base and the matching wall-mounted toilet form a perfectly balanced ensemble. The restrained design reflects the architectural language and blends in naturally with the overall design scheme. Light wood, precisely crafted joints, and matte tiles serve to highlight the understated elegance of the room.
The upper bathroom features a skylight that casts gentle natural light across the hand-rinse basin, furnishings, and spacious Duravit built-in bathtub. Wood, ceramics, and warm finishes combine to create a balanced atmosphere that serves as a subtle extension of the living space.
Architecture with stories to tell
The Danish Mews House retains echoes of its former life as a fashion showroom and transforms them into a fresh approach to living. The architects transformed the industrial structure into comfortable precision, while the materials, light, and craftsmanship tell a story of careful renovation.
The result is a house that preserves traces of its past and gives them a renewed, lighter form.
