What Are Important Things to Consider When Buying a Shower Pan?
Shower trays are as unique as their owners. Before you buy a shower tray, it is a good idea to first figure out what your specific needs, wishes and requirements for your shower tray are. It's hard to start specific planning and make the perfect choice until you are clear about the various options available and considerations to be made.
1. The shape of the shower tray:
square, rectangular, or corner version
2. The size of the shower tray:
31.5 x 31.5 inches (80 x 80 cm) to 71 x 35.5 inches (180 x 90 cm)
3. Shower tray materials:
• Sanitary acrylic shower trays: pleasant and smooth finish, light, robust, easy to install, colored throughout, UV-stable and colorfast
• Mineral composite shower trays: anti-slip, warm feel with an elegant finish, stone look and feel, completely colored throughout, high surface hardness and density, self-supporting, scratch-resistant
• Tip: Duravit shower trays made from the DuroCast Nature mineral material are also recyclable, making them especially sustainable
4. Shower tray colors:
• Sanitary acrylic shower trays: Glossy white
• DuroCast UltraResist shower trays: Anthracite, white or concrete
• DuroCast Nature shower trays: Matte white, matte anthracite, matte light gray, matte greige, matte dark gray and glossy white
5. Shower tray depths:
Either with a rim, at a height of 0.8 to 2.4 inches (2 to 6 cm), or at floor level without a rim, with the necessary slope for drainage. There are various types of installation, which makes installation flexible and offers the greatest possible design freedom.
6. Shower tray coating:
• Acrylic shower trays: Anti-slip coating optional
• DuroCast UltraResist shower trays: This material is already anti-slip (with slip resistance class B)
• DuroCast Nature shower trays: This material is already anti-slip as well (with slip resistance class C in matte colors)
Duravit Shower Pans
D-Code series shower trays
The D-Code series offers a wide selection of different shower trays. There are two shower trays for corner installation and square or rectangular versions in different sizes. Not only are they attractive but also functional and they fit in perfectly with the rest of the product range.
These are designed for a standard conventional installation, so they are ideal if you need to replace a shower tray during a remodeling project. Of course, the clear design also makes them ideal for installation in new buildings as well. The maximum edge height has been reduced to 0.8 inches (20 mm). This makes the shower trays very flat.
The shower trays from the Stonetto series were designed by the EOOS designer group and they focus on the essentials. These shower trays are made from DuroCast UltraResist, which looks like stone that has been worn away by water. The shower surface and drain cover create a holistic appearance and they also work well in high-capacity showers thanks to the built-in slope. They are available in different shower tray sizes and come in white, concrete and anthracite natural stone colors. The shower trays are self-supporting and can be installed without a base. They can be installed flush with the floor, semi-recessed or on the floor surface.
Seamless and comfortable with a puristic design. The Tempano series shower trays are a perfect match for modern bathroom design and are flexible in terms of both planning and installation. Tempano has acrylic shower trays with an attached sealing collar, which makes it possible to integrate the shower tray into the bonded waterproofing of the bathroom. They are available in different sizes and, depending on the structural conditions, they can either be installed flush with the floor, semi-recessed or on the floor surface - with a base if required. A continuous slope provides high drainage capacity, which is especially helpful when using large shower heads or rain showers.
Our DuroCast Nature material used in the Sustano series is recyclable, lightweight and can be used in all types of installations. This material has some great advantages: the non-porous surface is extremely easy to clean and the available colors outnumber the color options for shower trays from our other series. These include matte white, matte anthracite, matte light gray, matte greige, matte dark gray and glossy white.
Installation flush with the floor works especially well when you want an open, walk-in shower. This accessible bathroom solution is extremely convenient. In addition to the modern design, this also does away with tripping hazards. Floor-level recessed shower trays are also very easy to care for. Especially in new construction, more and more shower trays are being installed flush with the floor. This isn't always possible with remodels. Background: Underfloor heating is often installed in modern new construction and this allows enough height in the floor construction to install the shower flush with the tiles. This isn't always the case when it comes to remodels.
2. Semi-recessed shower trays
The semi-recessed version is a great option if your shower tray can't be installed flush with the floor. Maybe you're remodeling and there isn't enough height in the floor construction. A good alternative is to install the shower tray so it sits just above floor height, keeping the installation height as low as possible. How many inches that ends up being will depend on the structural conditions on site and the installation. Semi-recessed shower trays are often ideal for remodeling projects.
3. On-the-floor shower trays
Installing a shower tray on the floor is easy since it only has to be put on top of the subfloor or the tiles during installation. With our Stonetto series, for example, the maximum shower tray height is 2 inches (5 cm). This installation option is usually used when the shower tray can't be installed flush with the floor, which makes it ideal for remodeling projects in particular.
Care Instructions for Shower Pans
DuroCast UltraResist and DuroCast Nature
Shower trays made of the DuroCast UltraResist or DuroCast Nature mineral composite material can also be cleaned with a soft cloth and warm water. If the surface is particularly dirty or stained, you can also use liquid soaps, standard cleaning agents and eraser sponges. However, abrasive cleaning agents like scouring cream cleansers and scouring cloths or hard sponges should be avoided, as should concentrated acids or alkalis (e.g. caustic soda/potassium alkalis/drain cleaners, etc.).
Acrylic
Acrylic shower trays should be cleaned with a soft cloth and warm water. Abrasive cloths and aggressive cleaning agents shouldn't be used. Scratches and minor superficial damage can be repaired with the help of a repair kit.
Shower Pan Accessories
Wall profile
Duravit wall profiles for shower trays in the D-Code series are used for soundproofing. They are 10' 10" (330 cm) long and 2.75" (7 cm) wide.
Soundproofing kit
The soundproofing kit that Duravit offers for shower trays can also be purchased upon request. According to testing and certification by the Fraunhofer Institute, it meets the requirements for soundproofing found in VDI 4100 and DIN 4109 as well as the stricter Swiss standard SIA 181 on unfinished floors (with floor-level installation).
Base
A base is not absolutely necessary for shower trays made of DuroCast if there isn't enough space (floor depth) available. The advantage of using one is the simple installation and the fact that they make it easy to get the height of the upper edge of the shower tray to line up flush with the tiles.
Shower drain system
With the development of a new drain system, the performance of our shower drains has been optimized for increased water flow from large shower heads and rain showers.
